PERSONALITY:
I want to become the dream version of myself! The cool, ideal version!
Chiaki Morisawa is his own superhero origin story.
Once upon a time a sickly kid who fell in love with tokusatsu--and eventually, with the idols on tv--Chiaki has grown from nerdy and anxious to the hero he always dreamed he would be. As a third year at Yumenosaki and the leader of Ryuseitai, Chiaki has become a shining star--or maybe in his words, a Meteor Ranger.
Chiaki's peers often refer to him as the sun. It's an apt metaphor: his big, bright presence is the defining feature of his character. Chiaki laughs loud, sings loud, talks loud, and does everything in his life at 120%. This includes his emotions, from gushy pride over his underclassmen to squealing delight over sentai to terror at ghosts. He's ridiculously energetic and moves at full speed all of the time, no matter what the situation.
Burning with passion makes Chiaki an incredibly hard worker who refuses to give up on anything or anyone, even if they want him to. (Especially if they want him to.) He'll dedicate himself to causes--the revolution against the student council, for example--and follows up with them no matter what hard work comes with it. He gets frustrated sometimes when he can't do something to fix a problem (especially in his first year), but instead of using that to weigh him down, Chiaki takes those things to heart to try and find another way to fix it. His optimism knows no bounds, and it has led him to the general good standing he has in school now. He values his relationships with everyone and does his best to maintain them, to the point of obnoxiousness. Friendly, warm and guiding, Chiaki is a true hero. ☆
Chiaki is inherently a do-gooder. He likes to try and see the good in people no matter how they've treated him, which can be a downfall; it's really only his center of moral justice that keeps him from getting into anything too "unheroic". He even chooses to see the main 'villain' of the story as just one of the guys, because in Chiaki's heart of hearts, he believes that even if people have done bad things, just like in the sentai, they always deserve a redemption arc.
As the leader of Ryuseitai, Chiaki acts as a role model to his kohai and a beloved figure to kids. He works hard to make sure he's someone his kohai can always look up to, which occasionally leads to him putting up a front--Chiaki refuses to cry in front of the rest of Ryuseitai in Baton Pass and runs off to do it in private instead. He wants to be seen as strong, and every now and then he struggles with it as a leader.
However, he can also be ridiculously overbearing, especially when it comes to Midori, who is more or less his pet project. Chiaki bullheadedly decided he was going to help him out of his slump, and...boy, does he do it. He shows up at Midori's house, hugs him all the time, says embarrassing things to him and is overall just obnoxious. This goes for all of his kohai, though Midori suffers the most--Chiaki's quick to tell someone he loves them or how great they are, and if he thinks you need a hug, you get one. He can be smothering, and he's also bad at listening to the word no, especially when it's something he really doesn't want to hear--it makes him stubborn. In a way, Chiaki's like an arrow--once he fires forward, there's no chance he's coming back. Any dissonance from his underclassmen seems to melt right off of him at all times...his ignorance is bliss, maybe.
In reality, at least when it comes to Midori, Chiaki is so insistent because he knows what that's like. In Meteor Impact, Chiaki describes losing all hope, to the point that he couldn't even force himself to get out of bed. When he was younger, Chiaki was more of a wannabe hero than anything else; he was more anxious and less likely to act on his brash feelings or actions. Though not easily discouraged, Chiaki's conflict with the parts of him that aren't so heroic seems to have been a great battle that he's won, and he's doing his best to help Midori with that same knowledge.
Of course, not every quality of Chiaki is heroic. One of his biggest charm points is that Chiaki's a HUGE weenie. He's terrified of ghosts and scary movies (to the point of girlish screaming) and got so flustered in a cafe full of girls staring at him that he just turned around and ran away. In one side story, he was wandering around in the dark yelling hero monologues, and the sound of his own voice frightened him. He's also a reckless klutz who will run screaming into any situation despite still being anemic, hurt himself, and have to be treated by the school's doctor a couple of times a week. And while Chiaki's proven himself to be adept at studying and quite good at writing and reading, he's kind of an idiot. A true hot blooded hero show protagonist, Chiaki gets caught up in all kinds of stupid situations or says stupid things because he blurts out the first thing that's on his mind.
Unfortunately, that tends to be quotes from his precious sentai shows. Chiaki's obsession with being heroic and heroes came from his love of tokusatsu--and boy, does he love it. His line for blooming cards in the game is, of course, "hennnnSHIN! ☆" In wanting to be a hero, he's copied the mannerisms of his beloved sentai, from monologues to copying their sentai poses (to the point that once he accidentally punched a hole in a paper screen copying a pose while watching the show.) In that world--and in Chiaki's-- everything is black and white, heroes and villains--and Chiaki struggles with the fact that sometimes the world can be sort of morally gray.
POWERS/ABILITIES: He has exactly zero powers...although Midori says he's warm enough to be a heater. (but the kind you should put away when it gets hot outside.)
INVENTORY: At least two red ranger figures.
A basketball. (?)
His phone/headphones/etc.
MOONBLESSING: Sanguis!! Wan wan.
